For the last several weeks, the Ark-La-Tex has been buzzing about Caddo Parish Commissioner Michael Williams's proposal to ban pajamas in public. Despite a lack of support from fellow commissioners, Williams says he's not giving up. "We're crafting a letter to go out to Mr. Walmart, to Mr. Sam's, to Mr. Target, to Mr. Best Buy, and I hope to even do a canvassing foot campaign to talk to some of the businesses here locally to support my piece of legislation," he said.
Taewanna Taylor is a Shreveport resident who was sporting P.J. pants on her way to the grocery store. She says pajamas don't offend her. "I think some of them cute. I ask them where they get them from," she said.
Williams denies claims that the P.J. ban is unnecessary, saying the culture is in a state of moral decline. "It's a split between the young generation and the older generation on what we should wear in the public. I'm not trying to take anyone's constitutional rights away from them at all. I'm just trying to save a lost generation," he said.
Williams says he'll bring the ordinance before the commission at the end of this month.
I think the pajamas may be a bad fashion choice, but banning them is ridiculous. The flannel and fleece pants are about the most modest thing a girl can wear in public compared to the half naked outfits that are popular today. This law is a perfect example of the backwards state of society today. Commissioner Williams actually said he wants to "save the kids" with this. Does he realize the immoral downward spiral society is in?
