Students at Northwestern State University were alerted yesterday to  two attempted sexual assaults in the Varnado residence hall on campus.

According to Natchitoches campus spokesman David West, students were notified of the assaults through their PURPLE ALERT systems via text messages. Additional campus police have been deployed and students were instructed to be “aware of their surroundings and to take extra precautions”.

West would not say if a person of interest was detained in these attempted assaults. It's unclear if the assailant was a student or from off-campus.
