Two Days Of Rain And 9 Parishes Were Declared To Be In A State Of Emergency Last Week. The American Red Cross Along With The Caddo/Bossier Office Of Homeland Security Say They've Already Made Contact With About 280 Individuals And Businesses Effected By The Flooding. However It Will Take Another 2-4 Weeks For The Federal Government To Determine If They Will Provide Financial Assistance.
Sandy Davis With The Caddo-Bossier Office Of Homeland Security Said, "The Federal Threshold Is Not A Set Number. A Lot Of People Asked Us On Friday What Is That Number. There Is A Magic Number For Public Assistance, That's $780,000 For Caddo Parish, But For Individual Assistance It's Based Upon A Formula That The Federal Government Uses, Depending On The Median Income, The Real Estate Values, And Who Was Impacted."
In The Meantime, While Waiting On This Confirmation, Individuals Effected By The Storm Need To Document Damage With Pictures, Keep Receipts Of Any Expenses Incurred Because Of The Flooding, And Clean Up Damage As Quickly As Possible. Also, Those Who Haven't Had Their Properties Inspected By Officials Need To Contact Them This Week To Ensure You Will Be A Part Of The Group Receiving Aid.
Davis Said, "I'm Going To Wait Probably Until The Middle Of This Week To Determine If We're Getting A Large Number. We Assessed 280 Properties. If We Get 100 Or More Properties And 30 Or More Businesses, I'm Going To Ask For A Second Preliminary Damage Assessment."
Davis Says He's About 90% Confident They Will Meet The Federal Threshold, But If Not The Small Business Administration Can Also Provide The Community With Assistance.
