Free Beer, That's What A Thief Sees When You Leave Valuables In Your Car, Along With Free Cigarettes And Free Food. You Can Expect To See These Posters Downtown As S.P.D. Attempts To Target Would-Be Victims To Insure Your Property Stays Safe.
Chief Henry Whitehorn, Of Shreveport Police Department Said, "So Far This Year We've Had 540 Cases Of Theft From Autos City Wide, Compared To 751 The Same Time Last Year. Although That Is A 28% Decrease For This Year, Many Of The 540 Cases That We've Seen Could Have Been Prevented."
But Last Year, The Downtown Area Alone Saw A 64% Increase In Car Burglaries. That's Why Chief Whitehorn Is Targeting This Area, Going From Restaurant To Restaurant Spreading The Word And Asking For Their Cooperation.
Whitehorn Also Says About Half Of All Auto Thefts Where Personal Items Were Stolen Occurred Because Vehicles Were Unlocked.
Whitehorn Said, "It Takes Only A Few Minutes For A Criminal To Walk By A Vehicle, See Something Of Value Inside, Enter And Take Whatever He Or She Wants."
The Most Commonly Stolen Items Are Gps Systems, Purses And Even Weapons, But All Of This Can Be Prevented If People Take A Little More Time To Secure Their Belongings.
This Program Was Also Tested In Saint Louis, Missouri Last Year Where They Saw A 35% Decrease In Such Crimes During The First Quarter And A 40%Decrease For The Entire Year.
