After Two Special Sessions, The Legislature's Regular Session Is Now Upon Us And Governor Jindal Has Several Issues He Wants To Tackle Including Healthcare, Putting More Discipline In Classrooms, And Getting Raises For Teachers.
Gov. Bobby Jindal Said, "But Our Top Priority In The Regular Session Has To Be Revamping Louisiana's Workforce Development Programs. Right Now Louisiana Has The Lowest Unemployment Rate We've Had In Over Thirty Years."
In Fact, Governor Jindal Says, The State Has Over One Hundred Thousand Jobs They Cannot Fill, Over Seventy Percent Of The Companies Here Can't Find Qualified Workers And Companies Are Refusing To Bring Jobs Here Because Of Workforce Issues.
Gov. Jindal Said, "Of Those Sixteen Years And Older, Only Sixty Percent Of Our Adult Population Is Currently In The Workforce. That's A Very Low Number Compared To Other States. What That Tells Us Is That Too Many Of Our People Are Underemployed Or Unemployed. Some Aren't Even Looking For Jobs."
So The Governor Has Come Up With A Five Point Plan That He'd Like The Legislature To Consider Come Monday Including Recruiting And Filling The Current Vacancies And Appropriating Ten Million Dollars Every Year To Establish A Training Fund For Various Programs. Governor Jindal Says This Is The Third, And Perhaps Most Critical Step In A New Louisiana.
