NEW ORLEANS — Governor Bobby Jindal and U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu are calling for the resignation of Keith Bardwell, a white justice of the peace, who denied marriage to an interracial couple.
Governor Jindal says that Bardwell clearly broke the law when he decided not to issue a marriage license to the couple.
Bardwell has refused to resign from his position and has outraged many civil rights groups calling for an investigation or his resignation.
Bardwell has served as justice of the peace for 34 years, but has decided not to run again.
