SHREVEPORT, La. (KMSS) — Beginning May 1st the doors will close and major renovations will begin in the place Elvis once called home.
The Shreveport Municipal Auditorium is closing their doors in the upcoming months for the first time since opening in the early 1920s.
The auditorium will be undergoing a major renovation to comply with the American Disabilities Act which will include replacing the floors, putting in new seats in the orchestra level and adding air conditioning to the lobby area.
Officials are looking forward to the new improvements and say it will create a better experience.
"We are going to improve the building, we are going to put little creature comforts, we are going to bring it up to speed on ADA requirements and the guest are going to have a better experience," said Sam Voisin, who manages the facility.
The work is expected to be completed April 2014.
