Former President George H.W. Bush has been placed in an intensive care unit at a Houston hosptial after suffering a series of medical set backs including a fever. According to Jim McGrath, a spokesperson from Bush's office, the 41st president "is in guarded condition" and "his doctors remain optimistic".
After being hospitallzed since November 23rd for a cough related to bronchitis, Bush developed a fever that worsened over Christmas at which time he was admitted to the ICU unit. Although he has an elevated fever, his bronchitis has improved. McGrath said the 88 year old former president is alert and talking to medical staff.
Bush did not have to spend Christmas alone in the hospital. Several family members stopped by to visit including his sons Neil, the 43rd president, George W Bush, Jeb Bush, daughter, Dorothy, wife, Barbara and a grandson.
