Community leaders deliver meals to residents
SHREVEPORT, La. (KMSS) — Local Shreveport resident Elizabeth Alexander received a nice surprise today. Her Mayor and Sheriff visited her personally to deliver her daily meal that is provided by the Caddo Council on Aging.
Mayor Cedric Glover along with Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator was out today assisting the Caddo Council on Aging with their meal delivery program.
The event is designed to bring awareness to the dramatic increase in the shortage of food in Caddo Parish for people due to advance age and poverty.
“The one thing I have always said is that one of the ways you can really tell the character of a city is by how well it treats its children and seniors,” said Mayor Cedric Glover.
Today’s event also marks the 9th year the elected Mayor of the city and Sheriff has participated. The Caddo Council on aging is hosting March for Meals, which is a national campaign, on March 13th at 12:00 p.m.
The event is also designed to bring hunger awareness to the community and will feature Dallas Cowboy cornerback, Morris Claiborne.
