Would-be robber shot, arrested

A local man nursing a gunshot wound to the arm is in the city jail Thursday morning charged in connection with an attempted residential burglary Wednesday night in Shreveport’s Cedar Grove neighborhood.

At approximately 9:50 p.m. Shreveport officers were called to a reported shooting in the 500 block of East 73rd Street. Upon arrival, authorities found 37-year old Cori Yarborough suffering from a single gunshot wound to the arm. Yarborough was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injury.

Detectives learned Yarborough and another male suspect were apparently attempting to break into a house on East 73rd Street when the resident there, who was inside the home, heard them and went outside to investigate. The victim yelled at the would-be burglars at which time one of the suspects fired two shots from a handgun at him. One of those bullets struck Yarborough in the arm. The victim, who was not injured, went back inside and called police. The gunman fled prior to officer arrival.

Detectives have charged Cori Yarborough, of Shreveport, with one count of attempted simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling. Upon his release from the hospital, Yarborough was booked into the Shreveport City Jail.

Investigators are working at this hour to identify and arrest the other would-be burglar.
