Woman takes over $6800 in adoption scam
Authorities need your help finding a woman who has scammed almost $7000 from a family who was planning on adopting her baby. The problem? She wasn't even pregnant.
A Denham Springs family was looking forward to adopting Heather Hill's baby until they found out the 21-year old was faking her pregnancy. Hill and her boyfriend had gotten pregnant last year, then had an abortion in mid-August, said Erin Habich of the Bossier Sheriff's Office. Then, Hill approached a Lake Charles adoption agency in October to put her child up for adoption that she had already aborted.
The family gave her $6800, but then she told them she 'gave birth' in Shreveport and decided to keep the child after all. The family even made an effort to come to Shreveport to give her diapers and things for the baby after the birth, said Habich.
Hill and her boyfriend drive a silver Pontiac Grand Prix, and authorities believe they are still in the Shreveport-Bossier area.
Hill faces charges of theft by fraud, extortion, money laundering and racketeering. If you have any information on her whereabouts, you should call the Bossier Sheriff's Office immediately.
