LAFAYETTE, LA — A 30 year old local woman has been arrested and accused of striking two children with extension cords that left visible whelps on the victims’ bodies.

Deputies were alerted to the alleged abuse on March 9, 2012 by the children’s father. The children, both males ages 8 and 12 are related to the arrestee in the case but Investigators could not release the nature of the relationship due to child privacy laws.

After a joint investigation with the Office of Child Services deputies confirmed that both children were struck repeatedly with an extension cord in early March. The offense, said to have occurred in the 200 block of Crooked Creek Road, led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Teena James of Lafayette Parish for two counts of Cruelty to Juveniles on April 4, 2012.
