UPDATE: Semi wreck shuts down Hwy 71; 3 taken to hospitals

Officials tell KMSS the accident was cause by the driver of a semi not obeying a flagman in a construction zone.

The driver's actions set off a chain reaction wreck involving another semi and two trucks. One of those truck was hauling a recreational boat.

A third victim was taken by ambulance to the North Caddo Medical Center.

Northbound traffic is currently blocked from Ida to the Louisiana-Arkansas border. Southbound traffic has slowed.

Original report: Northbound traffic on Hwy. 71 is backed up due to an accident involving an 18-wheeler.

It happened about half a mile north of the Louisiana state line.

A pick-up truck is also involved.

Two people were flown to LSU Medical Center. Their conditions are not known at this time.

Officials tell KMSS, cleanup could take more than two hours.

Drivers in the area are urged to find another route.
