UPDATE: No charges filed in Eldorado shooting
Shreveport police tell KMSS the suspect in this case will have not charges filed against him.
Shreveport Police investigators are working a shooting that left a local man and teenager fighting for their lives.
At approximately 12:47 a.m. on July 21, 2011, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the third level of the Eldorado Resort Casino parking garage in the 400 block of Clyde Fant Parkway relative to a shooting. Upon arrival there officers discovered 20 year old Ryan Caldwell and a male juvenile, both of whom were suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the upper body. Caldwell and the juvenile were subsequently transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department with what have been described as life-threatening injuries.
Detectives were immediately notified and began their investigation. Based on information gathered and other evidence recovered at the scene of the crime, investigators were able to identify the man they believe was responsible for the shooting. Authorities made contact with that man and he voluntarily came to the Shreveport Police Complex and surrendered himself to investigators. Detectives also seized from him the gun they think was used in the shooting.
After conducting interviews with the alleged shooter as well as other witnesses to the incident, detectives believe at this point in their investigation that the man may have acted in self defense. The subject has not been charged at this time and detectives will be working with the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office as the ongoing investigation moves forward.
