Update- A local man reported missing yesterday has been found and is safe.
Family members reported to detectives this morning that 40 year old Melvin D. Jones saw himself featured on the news last night and called them saying he was safe and sound. Investigators contacted Mr. Jones and he advised them he lost his cell phone and had been unable to get in touch with his relatives.
The Shreveport Police Department needs your help to find a man who has not been seen since last Christmas.
Melvin D. Jones of Shreveport was last seen by family members on December 25, 2011. Since that time, his mother has talked to him numerous occasions on the phone but all that contact stopped about three weeks ago. Despite repeated attempts to reach Jones, relatives have been unable to get in touch with him and they report that is out of character. Mr. Jones is a 40 year old black male who stands about six feet tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He is known to frequent an apartment complex in the 7200 block of Bernstein Avenue in Shreveport.
Jones has some medical problems and police, like his family members, are concerned for his welfare. At this early stage of the investigation detectives have no evidence that is specifically indicative of foul play but they are not ruling anything out. If anyone has information regarding the whereabouts of Melvin D. Jones, they are asked to call Detective Lieutenant Dennis Pratt at 318-673-7020 or Shreveport-Caddo Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
