Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen says a Haughton man and Texas man have been arrested for attempted first degree murder following a joint investigation by the Bossier Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies of a shooting at a Haughton residence in July.

Wesley S. Austin, 28, of the 10 block of Sunnybrook Ln. in Haughton, and Christopher L. Weathersby, 27, of the 8100 block of Quail Trail Rd. in Orange, Texas, were arrested Aug. 9 for attempted first degree murder, attempted armed robbery and home invasion.

Back on July 23 just before 2:00 a.m., Bossier Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a shooting at a residence in the 200 block of Queen St. in Haughton. Deputies found the residence had been forcibly entered by two white males who were wearing bandanas and carrying weapons. There were two male victims in the residence when the home invasion occurred.

The suspects held one victim at gunpoint while the other victim secured himself behind a bathroom door. The suspects then attempted to force open the bathroom door to get him, but were unsuccessful. The suspects then fired one gunshot through the bathroom door, barely missing the victim on the other side of the door. The suspects then left without taking anything from the residence.

Bossier Sheriff’s detectives determined during the investigation the identity of the two suspects, and warrants were issued for their arrests.

Austin was arrested on Aug. 9 by Bossier Sheriff’s detectives and U.S. Marshals in Golden Meadows, La. Additionally, Austin is currently on parole in Louisiana for crimes in Texas, and he will likely face more charges.
Weathersby was arrested on Aug. 9 in Leesville, La., by Louisiana State Police and Vernon Parish authorities.
“I am extremely proud of the job of our detectives, and I’m so grateful for the outstanding support from the other law enforcement agencies,” said Sheriff Deen. “It’s teamwork like this that sends a message to criminals and those who think they can break the law in Bossier Parish that they will be caught.”

Austin and Weathersby were transported to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility, and bond is set at $650,000 each.
