Traffic flow to change following Liberty air show

Tuesday, May 3, 2011 - 10:42am

In an effort to help minimize traffic congestion when vehicles exit Barksdale Air Force Base at the conclusion of the 2011 Defenders of Liberty Air Show on May 7 and 8, traffic flow adjustments will be put into effect at the Shreveport Gate (also known as the West Gate).

When the gates to Barksdale Air Force Base open at 9 a.m. each day for the event, traffic entering the base will run in its normal configuration. When the air show ends all four lanes of traffic at the Shreveport Gate will be designated for outbound traffic only. This configuration will go into effect at approximately 4 p.m. on both days. The traffic flow for exiting vehicles at the Bossier Gate (also known as the North Gate) will remain unchanged.

Additional Bossier City police officers will be stationed at Barksdale Boulevard and Westgate Lane and at other intersections to help traffic entering and exiting the base move as quickly and safely as possible.

Motorists traveling in the vicinity of Barksdale Air Force Base during the day on Saturday and Sunday may experience delays, particularly in the area of the Barksdale Boulevard and West Gate Drive.
