Thousands without power in Shreveport

Wednesday, July 13, 2011 - 3:23pm

Some traffic signals in and around Shreveport's Southern Hills neighborhood are not functioning at this hour due to a loss of electrical power in the area.

Around 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, a large geographical area in southwest Shreveport lost power following some type of problem at a power company substation on Williamson Way. Due to this power outage numerous traffic signals directing traffic flow at intersections are not functioning. Officers report lights controlling major intersections such as Mansfield Road and Bert Kouns Industrial Loop and Interstate 49 and Bert Kouns Industrial Loop are working but smaller intersections like Bert Kouns Industrial Loop and Metroplex Drive, Bert Kouns Industrial Loop and Baird Road, and Mansfield Road and Baird Road do not have working traffic signals at this time.

Officers are working to monitor traffic flow at the intersections but motorists are urged to use caution and remember to treat intersections without functioning traffic lights as they would a four-way stop sign.
