Teen charged with manslaughter in accidental shooting
One teen is dead and another behind bars following a shooting in west Shreveport Friday morning.
At approximately 8:15 a.m. Friday, Shreveport police patrol officers were called to a home in the 3100 block of Woodford Street to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered 15-year-old Jacarlos Moran suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Moran was transported to a local hospital by the Shreveport Fire Department where he was later pronounced dead.
Detectives and crime scene investigators were immediately called to the scene of the crime. Based on preliminary information gathered during the early stages of their investigation, detectives believe that a large group of teenage children had gathered at the home on Woodford Street, when one of the teens pulled out a handgun. At some point during this time, the gun discharged and the bullet hit Moran. The shooter then ran from the scene of the crime.
A short time later, the suspect surrendered to investigators at the Shreveport Police complex. Everything detectives have learned at this time indicates that the shooting was not intentional and the 16-year-old boy has been booked into the Caddo Parish Juvenile Detention Center charged with one count of manslaughter. Investigators have seized the weapon they believe was used in this crime and are working to determine why the suspect had the weapon and how he came to be in possession of the firearm.
