A local teen has been arrested after firing a stolen handgun at a group of men during a fight.

At approximately 6:45 p.m. on October 13, 2010, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to a call from a concerned citizen relative to a fight in the 100 block of North Greenbrook Loop. Officers arrived on scene and discovered that several male suspects had approached 17 year old Justin Boatwin regarding an ongoing dispute of some nature and a fight erupted, during which Boatwin allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired shots at the men. It appears that no one was struck by the gunfire.

Upon further investigation, detectives discovered the semi-automatic handgun Boatwin fired was reported stolen back in 1994 from a local car wash. Boatwin told investigators he had purchased the gun on the street last August for $90. Justin Boatwin, of the 100 block of N. Greenbrook Loop in Shreveport, was arrested and booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of illegal possession of a stolen firearm. Investigators will be following up on the case in an effort to identify the other males involved in this altercation. The stolen firearm was seized and officers will be working to return it to its rightful owner.
