Suspected Global Express robber caught by police

Police have arrested a local man in connection with the robbery of an east Shreveport business late last week.

Just before 11:30 a.m. on May 20, 2011, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to an armed robbery in progress at Global Express in the 500 block of East Kings Highway. Upon arrival, officers learned that two male suspects entered the establishment there when one of them produced a semi-automatic handgun. The men proceeded to rob the business of an undisclosed amount of cash at gunpoint and then fled the scene of the crime. No one was injured during the robbery.

Based upon information gathered during their inquiry, detectives were able to develop a suspect and this afternoon they took that man into custody at his home without incident. The suspect, identified as 22 year old Darrius T. Ivy of the 2100 block of North Hearne Avenue in Shreveport, was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of armed robbery. Detectives report this is an ongoing investigation and they are still working to identify and apprehend other suspects they believe were involved in this crime.
