Shreveport Regional lands low-cost airline

People traveling in the Ark-La-Tex will see more flights starting this Spring.  Residents will have one more airline to choose from when flying out of Shreveport Regional Airport.

Expensive tickets, limited flights and long layovers are what many passengers have grown accustomed to when flying out of Shreveport Regional Airport.  Samantha Campbell, who has flown out of the airport a few times, said that she gets tired of making multiple stops before she reaches her final stop.

Tuesday afternoon, the Shreveport Airport Authority announced that Vision Airlines will offer low-cost direct flights to Destin, Florida from Shreveport beginning this April.  Shreveport Airport Authority Chairman, Keith Gamble, hopes that these flights will bring more to the city than just a chance for Ark-La-Tex residents to get away.  "We hope that not only do we send some travelers to Destin and Fort Walton, but we get some back to use our casinos and do some of the things that are great about Shreveport-Bossier."

With the addition of this airline, ticket counters at Shreveport Regional could become a lot busier, but would that be enough to bring in other airlines with low-cost flights?  Gamble told us that they hope that if the flights to Destin are successful, then landing additional airlines and flights will happen.  "We've looked at other flights like this.  This is how we kind of feel like Shreveport's going to grow is getting these direct flights to different cities where we work together as sister cities to send people there and bring them back."

The direct trip to Florida could be just the first of many new flights.  The Airport Authority tells us that they want to bring in more low fare flights, and frequent flyers could not agree more.

John Johnson, who lives in the Shreveport-Bossier area, said that more options available for the people here would be a good addition.  "Any time that you have more options available, that's just good for the local area."  Campbell agreed adding that direct flights would make flying out to and from Shreveport much easier.  "You don't have to worry about time, you don't have to worry about the stress of sitting here (and) trying to get from one end of the airport to another."

Less stress means happier travelers.  The Shreveport Airport Authority believes that adding Vision Airlines is a step in the right direction to bring in more low cost fares.
