Shreveport Police crash investigators have cited a patrol officer with one count of hit and run in connection with a parking lot crash involving two police department vehicles.
On September 17, 2010 at around 9:53 a.m., a Shreveport Police officer observed some minor damage to the front bumper of a department issued 2003 Dodge Sprinter parked in a police parking lot in the 1700 block of Snow Street. The officer notified supervisors and a crash report was written documenting the damage.
Shreveport Police Department crash investigators immediately began an inquiry into the crash in an effort to determine what had caused the damage. During the course of their investigation, Cpl. Robert L. Rivet, who was hired by the department in July of 1993, came forward and contacted investigators admitting that he had struck the Dodge while operating his assigned police unit, a 2006 Chevrolet Impala. The Impala was not damaged.
On September 28, 2010, Rivet was issued a traffic citation charging him with one count of hit and run. Chief of Police Willie Shaw has ordered an administrative investigation as well to determine what departmental policies may have been violated.
