Shreveport Police have charged a Shreveport officer with one count of simple battery in connection with a complaint received by the department.

On October 9, 2010 Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to a home in the 2900 block of Hillcrest Avenue relative to a battery call. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female victim who alleged that a male suspect, identified as Joey M. Willis, struck her on the face during an argument. Willis is a sergeant with the Shreveport Police Department.

Detectives were immediately notified and began an investigation into the incident. Based on information gathered during the course of their inquiry, investigators obtained an arrest warrant this morning charging Willis with one count of simple battery. Joey M. Willis, 45, surrendered himself to authorities at the Caddo Correctional Center at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon.

Willis, who joined the Shreveport Police Department in March of 1990, was placed on administrative leave by Chief of Police Willie Shaw back on October 11, 2010. Willis will remain on leave pending the outcome of an administrative investigation.
