Shreveport officials unable to identify hit and run victim

Police are investigating a hit and run accident that claimed the life of a man on North Market Street Tuesday evening

At around 9:17 p.m., Shreveport officers responded to the 4600 block of North Market Street, just south of the Shell Quick Pantry gas station, concerning a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle.

Upon arrival, authorities found a man dead in the turn lane. Witnesses say the victim, who was dressed in dark clothing, was standing in the middle of the center turn lane, trying to cross the roadway in an easterly direction.A maroon vehicle, headed northbound, pulled into the middle turn lane and hit the pedestrian, killing him. The vehicle then sped off and turned westbound on a nearby street and away from the scene.

Officials took fingerprints to help identify the victim. As of this time, he has not been positively identified.
