Police detectives have arrested a local man for firing a handgun in west Shreveport this morning.

At approximately 11:40 a.m. this morning, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Devaughn Street relative to a shots fired call. Upon arrival there, officers began an investigation and discovered that a male suspect had been shooting at another man in that block. Officers recovered shell casings from the street and were ultimately able to develop a suspect. At this point investigators do not believe anyone was injured in the shooting.

A short time later, officers arrested 36 year old James Brooks. Detectives interviewed Brooks and learned that he was apparently involved in an altercation with another man relative to some type of narcotics transaction. During the course of this dispute, Brooks allegedly produced a handgun and began firing at the man. James Brooks, of the 2500 block of Devaughn Street in Shreveport, was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count each of illegal use of a weapon and convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Detectives have seized the weapon they believe Brooks used to commit this crime.
