A local man has been arrested after he allegedly fired a handgun from a vehicle last night in a residential west Shreveport neighborhood and then fled when confronted by police.
At around 11:20 p.m. on Tuesday police officers were called to a report of gunshots fired in the 3100 block of Regent Street. A concerned citizen reported to dispatchers that a suspect driving a white Ford Mustang was firing a gun in that block. Officers saw the Mustang in the 3700 block of Hearne Avenue and tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver refused to slow down and fled the scene to evade capture. The alleged gunman then led authorities on a chase that lasted more than 20 minutes and ultimately ended across town near the intersection of Louisiana Avenue and Lake Street, where he bailed out of the car and ran. Following a brief foot pursuit, patrolmen took the man into custody without incident.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Frederick Vaughns of the 2600 block of Looney Street in Shreveport, was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count each of convicted felon in possession of a firearm, aggravated flight in a vehicle, resisting a police officer with force or violence, and discharging a firearm within the city limits. Investigating officers impounded the Ford Mustang Vaughns was driving and seized a .22 caliber semi-automatic Browning handgun as well as .22 caliber ammunition they located in that car.
