Rookie K-9 cop dies unexpectedly
A rookie police dog with the Caddo Sheriff's Office died unexpectedly on Monday, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.
Force, a 2-year-old Belgian malinois, was found dead in his kennel around 4:45 p.m. by his handler, Deputy Gary Bailey. Force was taken to Southern Hills Animal Hospital where a necropsy was performed. It was determined that he suffered from gastric torsion, which limited his blood supply.
Force was new to the Sheriff's Office, having served only about six months. He was trained as a dual purpose dog in narcotics and patrol duties.
He will be buried at the Caddo K-9 Rest cemetery at the Sheriff's Regional Training Academy on Friday.
