Red River Parish juror arrested for abuse of office

Wednesday, November 30, 2011 - 12:29pm

A former Red River Parish police juror has been arrested by state police detectives for malfeasance in office and abuse of office.

In June 2011, the Red River Parish district attorney requested that Louisiana state police investigate allegations that a police juror, Billy Joe Gay of Hall Summit, had used police jury resources for work done on private property. An investigation was initiated and detectives learned that in 2010 Gay had directed and allowed on-duty police jury employees to use police jury equipment to deliver and install parish owned culverts, dirt and foundation rock to improve his personal property.

On November 28, 2011, a Red River Parish Grand Jury indicted Gay for one count each of malfeasance in office and abuse of office. On November 29, 2011 Gay surrendered to Louisiana state police and was booked into the Red River Parish Jail.

Gay resigned from the police juror position in August 2011.
