Police looking for murder suspect captured in video

Thursday, September 22, 2011 - 5:04pm

The Bossier City Police Department today released a video of a murder victim that they hope will help find his killer.

The video shows 21-year old James Dean Smith of Vivian, Louisiana leaving the Rockin’ Rodeo night club in the 1000 block of Gould Drive with a friend on July 23, 2011 at 1:25 a.m. Smith and his friend got into Smith’s car and drove down Gould Drive to Old Minden Road where they proceeded west. As Smith’s vehicle approached Benton Spur, a male subject in a gold or tan 4-door car – possibly a Nissan Maxima or Altima - pulled alongside Smith’s car and fired a gun. A round struck Smith and killed him.

The suspect vehicle then drove away from the scene while the Smith’s car continued westbound on Old Minden Road before coming to a stop near the Benton Road intersection.

The suspect is believed to be a white male with short cropped hair. Detectives are continuing to follow up on leads in the case and believe the shooting was not a random act. Detectives believe that there are individuals who have information about this case and are asking them to step forward.

Bossier Crime Stoppers is offering a $1000 reward to anyone who can provide police with information that leads to an arrest in this murder. They can call Bossier Crime Stoppers at (318) 424-4100. Tips can also be submitted via the Internet at bossiercrimestoppers.org. Persons who contact Bossier Crime Stoppers are reminded they may remain totally anonymous.
