A local teen has been arrested after he allegedly fired a handgun at a group of young men in west Shreveport.
At approximately 3:48 p.m. on Wednesday, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the intersection of W. Canal Boulevard and Meadow Avenue relative to an armed person shooting a gun there. Officers arrived on scene and learned that 18 year old Dajuan Kennedy had apparently been involved in an ongoing dispute with some other teenagers and that the altercation allegedly culminated with Kennedy producing a handgun and firing shots. No one was injured and Kennedy fled the scene of the crime prior to officer arrival.
Patrol officers working the case were able to locate Dajuan Kennedy and took him into custody late last night without incident. Kennedy, of the 2700 block of Meadow Avenue in Shreveport, was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of illegal use of a weapon.
Chief of Police Willie Shaw praised the arrest, saying, “Addressing illegal gun violence has been one of our top priorities and we are going to send a clear message to those common street thugs who would put the lives of innocent citizens at risk- if you ply your trade in our city, you will go to jail.”
