One arrested in fatal weekend stabbing

Shreveport Police detectives have arrested a suspect in connection with a Saturday night stabbing that has left one man dead, and another facing charges of second degree murder.

At approximately 9:50 p.m. Saturday evening, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to a fight call in the 500 block of E.74th Street. Upon arrival there, officers located the victim, 27 year old Tyrone L. Miles of Shreveport, suffering from serious injuries as a result of apparent stab wounds. Miles was transported to a local hospital with what was considered to be life threatening injuries and later died.

The incident reportedly began following a fight between family members that erupted into a brawl involving multiple persons. It was during the brawl, Miles was fatally wounded. The suspect in the stabbing, 36 year old Derrick Edwards of the 700 block of Rainbow Drive in Shreveport was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the detectives office. Following an interview with Edwards, he was transported and booked into the city jail on charges of second degree murder.
