Officer removed from duty after domestic violence charge
Police Chief Willie Shaw has placed a Shreveport police officer on paid administrative leave after learning the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office issued the officer a misdemeanor summons early Wednesday morning.
Authorities with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office contacted officials at the Shreveport Police Department this morning just after midnight and notified them that they had issued Michael Welch a misdemeanor summons for domestic abuse battery after investigating a report of domestic trouble in Caddo Parish. Welch was not on duty at the time of the incident.
Welch, who was hired by the department in March of 2005, has been relieved of all duties pending an administrative investigation ordered by Chief Shaw.
