Wednesday, March 21, 2012 - 11:47am

Natchitoches Parish officials are evacuating mobile homes due to heavy flooding along Highway 478, just outside the Natchitoches city limits.

Natchitoches deputies have already rescued one bed-ridden woman near the intersection of Highway 478 and Highway 1 South. Officials tell KMSS the 70-year old was trapped inside her home by 4 foot high water.  A row boat was used to reach her porch, where she was loaded and then taken to safety.

Widespread reports of flooded cars and homes are common in Natchitoches Parish, however, the city of Natchitoches is in fair condition. Streets are still passable at this time, but the Cain River near downtown is overflowing.

Natchitoches fire officials are currently assessing the situation within the city.
