Two suspects who crashed a stolen vehicle this morning while running from police on Interstate 220 have been arrested.
At approximately 9: 37 a.m. on January 19, 2012, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to a home in the 3100 block of Gorton Road relative to a stolen vehicle. The complainant advised responding officers that someone had just stolen his 1975 Ford pick-up truck with two motorcycles in the bed. Police dispatchers broadcast a description of the stolen vehicles and, just moments later, a traffic officer spotted them on Interstate 220 headed east. The officer got behind the truck and tried to stop it but the driver refused to comply and fled in an apparent attempt to evade capture. After leading police on a short pursuit, the suspect lost control of the truck and rolled it over, blocking both eastbound lanes of Interstate 220 just east of Hilry Huckaby Drive.
The suspect and his accomplice abandoned the crashed truck and ran from the scene on foot. Patrolmen and a police K-9 captured one of the suspects while a concerned citizen who observed the fracas detained the other until authorities were able to apprehend him. Both suspects were transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department for treatment of minor injuries.
Detectives have charged 17 year old Ladarius Walpool, of the 2800 block of Lakeview Road in Shreveport, with three counts of theft of a motor vehicle, one count of aggravated flight from an officer, and one count of resisting an officer. A 16 year old male suspect was charged with three counts of theft of a motor vehicle and one count of resisting an officer. Walpool’s mugshot is not immediately available as he is still at LSUHSC.
