Shreveport police tell KMSS one person was killed over the weekend after they were hit walking in the roadway.
The accident happened around 2:48 a.m. near the 1800 block of Spring Street on Sunday.
Officers were dispatched to a report of a man walking in the roadway on Spring Street. A concerned caller told officials the man had almost been hit by a vehicle. Just moments later, with patrolmen en route, authorities received another call that a person had been hit by a vehicle near that location.
When officer arrived, they found a man who had been hit by a car driven by 50-year-old Gwendolyn Brown of Shreveport. The man was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Crash investigators were immediately dispatched and Ms. Brown voluntarily accompanied them to police headquarters where she underwent mandatory chemical testing for intoxication. That test came back negative and investigators do not think alcohol was a factor on the part of the driver.
Based on statements gathered, police believe Ms. Brown was driving in the inside lane on Spring Street and did not see the man until he was illuminated by a street light. She tried to avoid him but was unable to do so.
No charges have been made at this time and authorities have not released the name of the man who was killed.
