A man collapsed and died this afternoon after allegedly robbing a west Shreveport business.

At approximately 12:25 p.m. on May 4, 2012, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to a report of an unconscious man in the 5400 block of Hearne Avenue. Upon arrival there, patrolmen discovered 39 year old Dermott Lattin lying in a parking lot behind A-1 Quick Cash. Lattin, who appeared to be unresponsive, was subsequently transported to Willis-Knighton Medical Center on Greenwood Road where he was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators were immediately dispatched and, upon further investigation, learned Lattin apparently entered the business there and physically accosted a female employee, demanding money. He allegedly received an undisclosed amount of cash and then fled the store on foot. As he was running towards what detectives are calling a get-away car, he fell to the ground. The employee received minor injuries during the attack.

Officials with the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy to determine what caused Lattin’s death.
