Haughton beggar steals grandmother's gold for crack
Deputies arrested a man Thursday night for asking people for money in front of the CVS in Haughton.
Tramell J. Lars, 29, of Haughton, was taken into custody at the CVS pharmacy in Haughton after authorities saw Lars asking people for money in front of the store. Lars had a variety of gold jewelry in his pockets and stated that his sister had given it to him. He went on to say that she lives out of town, but had given him the jewelry that night.
Lars later admitted to officials that he stole the jewelry from his grandmother and was trying to sell it. He had hoped that the money from the jewelry, combined with the money for begging, would be enough to purchase crack cocaine. The grandmother came to the scene saying it was in fact her jewelry and the items were given back to her.
Lars was arrested and taken to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility. He is charged with theft, illegal possession of stolen things and vagrancy. His bond is pending.
