Harrison County warns of hot check scam

Tuesday, October 4, 2011 - 5:20pm

The Harrison County Criminal District Attorney’s Office has received several calls today from residents who have been contacted by individuals claiming to be trying to collect hot checks on our behalf. This office does not contract with any other entity to collect hot checks in Harrison County.

If anyone receives a call, or e-mail, such as this, you should contact your local law enforcement agency. If you need to confirm whether or not you have a hot check, you may call our Hot Check Division at 903-935-8408.

Protect yourself from being a victim of identity theft. NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR PERSONAL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION TO SOMEONE OVER THE PHONE!

This office is authorized by law to collect hot checks but we NEVER ask for your date of birth, social security number, drivers license number, checking account information or credit card information.
