Harrison County deputy, wife arrested for sexual indecency with student
UPDATE: Harrison County officials are still investigating the former Harrison County deputy and his wife who are accused of sexual indecency with a child. Eddie Nichols had worked for the sheriff's department for three and a half years. Before that, he served 13 years with the Marshall Police Department, receiving an award for meritous conduct and community service in 2006. Residents confirm that Nichols is an ordained minister and served as pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Marshall. He has been terminated from his position as deputy.
Sharon Nichols works in the county's probate office. Residents describe her as helpful and kind, and say the allegations against her are "shocking." One woman who works in the courthouse says, "She dresses like a schoolteacher and she's really nice and helpful in there and if you ever have a question, she's the one who would jump to help you."
Officials say they aren't releasing the name of the age of the vicitm, merely saying she was under the age of consent mandated by statute. If convicted, the Nichols face up to 20 years in prison.
HARRISON COUNTY — Harrison County officials were notified Thursday by a Texas State Technical College police officer of an incident involving a deputy and his wife that was reported to them by a school counselor.
The incident was reported by a juvenile female student to a counselor regarding inappropriate sexual contact. Once the Sheriff’s Office was notified, the Harrison County District Attorney’s Office and Child Protection Services of East Texas were immediately notified and an investigation began into the allegations.
After interviews, warrants were obtained by the District Attorney’s Office for the arrest of Deputy Nichols and his wife, Sharon Nichols, on charges of sexual indecency with a child by contact. The charges are a 2nd degree felony, and both were arrested and placed in jail.
Eddie Nichols was arraigned and a bond of $200,000 was placed on him. He is currently in the Harrison County Jail. Sharon Nichols was arraigned and a bond of $100,000 was placed on her. She has been released from jail.
Deputy Nichols has been terminated.
