BATON ROUGE – Governor Bobby Jindal signed into law today a bill to exempt disabled veterans from having to pay the fee to obtain a special identification card. HB 590 by Representative Karen St. Germain extends the exemption veterans currently have for the payment of fees to obtain a driver’s license to now also include special identification cards. The bill is part of the Governor’s 2012 legislative package.

Governor Jindal said, “Our Louisiana veterans made the choice to put their lives on the line to defend our freedoms and for that we are forever grateful. Already we’ve taken a number of steps to further our aid and support to our veterans including expanding the eligibility requirements of the Louisiana War Veterans Homes, creating LAVETBIZ to assist veterans who own their own business, and increasing the presence of service offices with locations now open in every parish across the state. This legislation is another step our state can take to say thank you to the brave men and women who answered the call of duty in the name of our American values.”
