Elderly Caddo Parish couple dies in holiday fire
An elderly couple is dead after a fire ripped through their Greenwood home Monday night.
Caddo Parish firefighters rushed to the home in the 4700 block of Greenwood Heights Road in Greenwood just after 9 p.m. Monday night. When they arrived the carport was completely engulfed in flames where two cars were parked. The fire then spread to the inside of the home.
In a bedroom inside, firefighters found the bodies of Elgin Elliot, 83, and his wife Mary Elliot, 83. Caddo Fire District 3 Fire Chief Ernest Mitchell told us the front half of the home was destroyed by the fire, but the bedroom the couple was in only received minor fire damage.
The Louisiana State Fire Marshal's office told FOX 33 they have not determined an official cause of the fire.
The Caddo Coroner is doing a routine autopsy on both bodies, and the investigation is ongoing.
