Drunk driver kills man crossing Youree Drive

The driver of a vehicle that hit a pedestrian Wednesday night in southeast Shreveport has been arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

At around 7:41 p.m. on Wednesday Shreveport officers were called to a major crash on Youree Drive near East Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. When officers arrived on scene, they found a 32-year old man had been hit a by car. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers learned that a car driven by 26-year old David Kizer was headed southbound on Youree Drive just south of East Bert Kouns Industrial Loop when, according to witnesses, a man , who appeared to be crossing Youree Drive from east to west, ran out in front of his car.

Kizer, of Shreveport, was taken to the Shreveport Police Complex for routine blood alcohol screening and was determined to be operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was arrested and booked into the Shreveport City Jail.

Crash investigators are trying to determine the cause of the crash.

The identity of the man killed is being withheld at this time pending notification of relatives.
