A local teen was taken into custody yesterday in Shreveport’s Highland neighborhood after he allegedly snatched a woman’s purse on the campus of Centenary College.
At approximately 3: 39 p.m. on June 30, 2011, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to the Centenary campus to assist Centenary College police officers who were chasing a suspect wanted in connection with a purse snatching. Officers chased the suspect to the 100 block of East Dalzell Street where a Shreveport Police K-9 took the suspect into custody. The suspect, identified as a 16 year old male juvenile, was subsequently transported to a local hospital where he was treated for injuries incurred as the result of a dog bite.
Upon further investigation, Shreveport Police detectives learned the teenager allegedly approached a woman outside of the Student Union building and snatched her purse while pushing her to the ground. Several witnesses observed the crime and gave chase to the suspect. The victim’s purse and all of her belongings were recovered and returned to her. She was not injured during the attack.
Upon his release from the hospital, investigators booked the teen into the Caddo Parish Juvenile Detention Center on one count of purse snatching.
