Caddo Parrish school budget faces tough cuts
The Caddo Parish School Board needs to cut $15 million from next school year's budget, but they're not sure where cuts will be made.
Superintendent Gerald Dawkins presented an updated budget at Tuesday's school board meeting, showing 313 positions that will be cut. So far, they've been able to reduce 147 positions through attrition and by eliminating vacant positions.
The other 166 will likely lead to layoffs of custodians, office clerks and bus drivers. Dawkins insists under his plan that no teachers will be laid off.
The board will meet again June 7 for a final budget presentation. They will vote on June 21 to approve next year's budget.
