Burglars target vehicles at Shreveport apartment complex

A Shreveport apartment complex has become a repeat target for thieves.  Now, the people who live there are stepping up precautions and wondering when will it stop?

At least four cars at The Pier Landing Apartments were targeted by criminals during Easter weekend.  This was a very unwelcome gift for one new resident.  Kristi Vernon and her boyfriend moved into their apartment about a week before their car was burglarized.

Her boyfriend's radio, tools and GPS system were all stolen out of his car, and it looked like the burglars knew exactly what they were doing.  "They basically took it all out and they didn't cut any wires." Vernon told us.  "They just took their time doing everything."

The rash of burglaries has people at the complex taking extra precautions when it comes to protecting their vehicles.  "Right now, we're just making sure our doors are locked, make sure nothing's visible inside the cars," said Dereck Sanchez, a resident of the apartment complex.

Vernon told us that the only damage to their car was when the burglar tried to move the window off track to be able to reach inside and unlock the vehicle.  "It was really weird that they didn't break anything," she said.  "It's like they just took their time."

Anyone with information about these burglaries should immediately call Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373.
