Bossier police to be out in force during holidays

Tuesday, November 23, 2010 - 1:35pm

The Bossier City Police Department will activate its Armed Robbery Task Force for the 24th consecutive year when the holiday shopping season officially kicks off later this week. Officers assigned to the Task Force will patrol businesses and shopping centers over the next several weeks in an effort to prevent crime, particularly armed robberies.

While activated Task Force officers not only provide a law enforcement presence around local businesses but they can also utilize such tactics as staking out businesses from inside backrooms and even convenient store coolers while on the lookout for potential trouble. One of the objectives of the Task Force is to prevent hold ups and other crimes by keeping criminals guessing if a business they may be targeting will have an armed Bossier City police officer inside or nearby.

The Bossier City Police Department began utilizing its Armed Robbery Task Force for the holiday shopping season in 1987. The Task Force is funded by a grant from the United States Justice Department.
