Bossier City police have arrested a young man in connection with a shooting earlier this week in which he was shot.

Detectives arrested 19-year old Damario Sheldon Kelly, of Bossier City, on a charge of aggravated assault.

Officers were called to a local hospital Wednesday night after Kelly showed up with a minor gunshot wound to the leg. Kelly was transferred to a Shreveport hospital for further treatment.

Bossier City authorities discovered Kelly had been involved in a shootout in the 2100 block of Scott Street earlier that evening.

Upon his release from the hospital Thursday, Kelly was arrested for firing first. Detectives say the other man returned fire in self-defense with one bullet hit Kelly in the leg.

Kelly was booked into the Bossier City Jail and later taken to the Bossier Parish Maximum Security Facility.
