Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen says a Bossier City man was arrested late Friday night on 14 different charges.
Dwight D. Thomas, Jr., of the 4000 block of Beach Street, was driving west on East Texas Street when deputies noticed that he had no license plate light, several vision obscurements hanging from the rearview mirror, wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and crossed the fog line. Deputies initiated their overhead lights and sirens. Thomas didn’t stop. He instead turned down Tinsley Drive and into the Fountain Lake Apartments. When he turned into the apartment complex, he sped up and jumped out of the moving car. The vehicle then crashed into another parked car. Thomas took off on foot into the Kmart parking lot but was apprehended by another deputy. Thomas then gave the wrong date of birth and stated that he thought he had a warrant.
A K-9 unit was dispatched to the car. The dog showed a positive odor response on the outside of the car, as well as the center console. A search of the car yielded a suspected bag of marijuana in the center console. After running the license plate, deputies discovered that the license plate had been switched. The car had no insurance, no proof of registration, and the registration was expired. Thomas also had no driver’s license, and a criminal history check showed he had three previous marijuana charges. He was also charged with not using a turn signal twice.
Thomas was arrested and transported to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility. He is charged with possession of marijuana 4th, reckless operation, resisting by flight, resisting by false statements, switched plates, no insurance, vision obsurement, improper lane usage, no license plate light, no seatbelt, no driver’s license, no turn signal, no proof of registration, expired registration. His bond is currently set at $13,200.
