Police are releasing the name of a man killed in what is thought to be a one vehicle crash over the weekend near Shreveport’s Highland neighborhood.
At approximately 2:05 p.m. on January 28, 2012, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Southern Avenue near the intersection of Margaret Place relative to major crash involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a 1995 Harley-Davidson driven by 40 year old Walter Sparks of Bossier City, Louisiana apparently struck a utility pole there on Southern Avenue. Sparks was transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department where he was later pronounced deceased.
Crash investigators immediately responded to the scene and began recovering evidence, taking measurements, and interviewing possible witnesses. Investigators believe that the motorcycle’s front tire struck a steel curbside drain causing Sparks to lose control and strike the pole. At this early stage of their investigation, they are still working to determine why Sparks struck the drain.
